“Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened.  Happiness never decreases by being shared” – The Buddha.

Here are a few pics and stories of what the TLE Team does in their off time either to help the community, bring joy to those around them, and also some fun updates from our team.

Susan rides an elephant!

While on a Ligman Lighting reward trip to Thailand, Susan had quite an adventure riding an elephant this past December.  Perched high atop this pachyderm, Susan discovered that the difference between an Indian and an African Elephant is about 3000 miles.  Also- she figured out the answer to this question:  How do you get down from an elephant?  The answer is… you don’t, you get down from a goose.

Philly Marathon

The Lighting Element’s own – Brendan McCartney ran the Philadelphia Marathon with his mom over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend. Despite extremely chilly temperatures and 40 mile per hour winds, Brendan finished the marathon in just 3.5 hours. He and his family had a great time and the support for each other was amazing –  this pic was taken just after Brendan’s mom, Elizabeth crossed the finish line. They say you burn about 100 calories per mile- so a marathon burns at least 2620 calories! That should be enough to burn off all of that yummy turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy and pie! We are proud of you Brendan for running another marathon! Way to go!

Orchids & Onions

The SDAF – San Diego Architectural Foundation’s annual Orchids & Onions event was a total blast this year- the VIP pre-party was held at the Horton Plaza Pavilion with the Awards ceremony at the historic Spreckles Theater.  Maddy Kent is on the Board of Directors for the SDAF and our Philips team donated the lighting for the VIP event  – This photo is taken in front of an orchid display made by the awesome volunteer team and lit up by Philips Color Kinetics.  Pictured are (from left to right) Julee Griffith, Maddy Kent, Virginia Wilken, Christina Cabra and Lucia Belloso

Heart Walk

The American Heart Association’s annual Heart Walk in San Diego, 2016 – “Team Fletcher” walks every year in support of the AMA.  This awesome event is held in Balboa Park every year in early Fall and is supported by many in the construction industry.  This year the San Diego heart walk raised over 1.2million dollars and helps funds to fight heard disease and stroke.  After crossing the finish- the team took this fun photo.  Pictured (from left to right) Christina Cabra, Scott MacElwee, Maddy Kent, Broomhilda (Maddy’s dog in front) then Julee Griffith hiding in the back, Virginia Wilken, and Emile Griffith.  Come join us next year – it is always a great time!
